Céder n’est pas consentir

Tuesday 12 October 2021 - 04:30pm - 05:30pm

Book talk by Clotilde LeGuil, in conversation with Jennifer Tamas.

Céder n’est pas consentir : It seems obvious that there is a difference between “giving in” and “consenting.” Yet sometimes the two concepts are dangerously close. Drawing from the contemporariness of #MeToo and Vanessa Springora’s story, Clotilde LeGuil’s new book explores the subjective roots of consent. Drawing from psychoanalysis, she shows that desire is not synonymous with pulsion and that confrontation has an indelible aftermath. Why can’t I say anything about it once it happened? How to consent to speak again?

Clotilde Leguil is a psychoanalyst and philosopher. She is a professor in the department of psychoanalysis at University Paris 8 and member of the Ecole de la cause freudienne. She has published several books, including L’Être et le Genre, homme/femme après Lacan (Presses Universitaires de France, 2015) and « Je », une traversée des identités (Presses Universitaires de France, 2018).
