The course examines the history and trends of cinema in Francophone regions across the globe.  Students will explore the art of the spectacle by studying French films, series, graphics novels, and lyrical performances. French cinema, despite its strong quality of tradition, is bound to scenes of migration, transgression, and cross-cultural encounters.  Students will therefore rethink cinema as a shifting art form that is inseparable from topics of geography, language, ethnicity, and social events. By the end of the course, students will be able to answer critical questions about filmmaking and its various avatars throughout the Francophone world. Taught in French. Open to students in the Department of French MAT program.

Cross-listed: 01:420:469. MAT students will create a unit of study that uses cinema and its various derivatives to teach language and culture.
