French and Francophone Culture in the French Living and Learning Community - Exploration and discussion of topics in French and Francophone contemporary cultures. The course uses film, series, contemporary music and short texts to facilitate discussion on cultural notions and contemporary issues. It offers a unique opportunity to develop cultural knowledge while practicing conversation skills and making connections with students at different levels of proficiency in French. Weekly in-person meetings at Leupp Hall (Tuesday 7:30-8:50 PM) will be dedicated to guest lectures, students' presentations, and film screening. Students will develop and improve fluency in oral expression and listening comprehension.  Authentic material will be used as the basis for communicative activities, cultural explorations, and discussions.

Open to students with at least one semester of college-level French or at least two years of French in High School or equivalent.  This class is largely conducted in French and the use of English is kept to a minimum. Required of the residents of the French Living and Learning community and open to highly motivated non-residents. Permission of department.

Selected activities will be designed in partnership with the Department of French and the Facile French Arts, Culture and Inclusive Language Experience (FACILE) club. Class participants in 297 are encouraged to join the club which meets weekly.

May be used to satisfy minor requirements.
